Ending our 34-year run on a high note

The Economic Roundtable has completed all the studies in our project pipeline and will close on August 31, 2025. We will use our remaining resources to keeping the Roundtable’s website and library of reports publicly available for the next two years.

Our mission since we began in 1991 has been to create knowledge for the common good, for fighting unfairness and empowering marginalized and vulnerable individuals to live better lives. We have done this using data shaped by disciplined research.

That data comes to life in the hands of people who care about data-based truth, are disgusted by greed, believe in fair pay for hard work, and want a future that holds decent jobs, homes, health care, and a clean environment for our children and grandchildren.

Our work and our engagement with readers has included:

• 110 reports that support fairness in jobs and housing, and a livable environment.
• 25 of the reports have been self-funded, tackling important, neglected issues.
• Over 87,000 visits to our website since 2014, viewing reports 209,000 times, and downloading reports over 31,000 times.
• Over 56,000 views of our reports, with over 9,000 downloads, at the Social Science Research Network website.
• Over 26,000 full-text reads of our reports on the ResearchGate website.
• Coverage of our reports in 930 news articles since 2014.
• An active email list of over 12,000 readers in the news media, academia, government, and the public.

Information we produced has supported:

• Living wages for workers employed in grocery stores, warehouses, schools, universities, airports, hotels, restaurants, construction, and ports.
• Raising the minimum wage in Los Angeles and Long Beach.
• Empowering homeless residents by combatting homelessness with jobs.
• Improved enumeration of homeless residents.
• Intervening early in the course of homelessness by identifying individuals with a high risk of becoming persistently homeless.
• Equitable rent standards in Los Angeles and San Jose.
• Education and skill development for welfare recipients.
• Water conservation, storage and reuse.
• Adoption of zero-emission trucks for drayage.
• Recognition of the harm to public health that will result from Medicaid cuts.
